A Watched Pot Never Boils…

November 8, 2009

So I have been in labor for about 2 weeks now… It is pretty amazing that this kid just hasn’t given up yet and found another way out. For the first week I was on bed rest, which I was actually grateful for because I had a horrendous cold and wanted to do nothing more than read and watch tivo. Kay had a fabulous time with her grandparents but I missed her terribly- those 8 days were by far the longest I have ever been away from my girl.

I was so happy that we got her back in time for Halloween and she had a fabulous time Trick or Treating with her dad and cousin, Tom. She ended up being a vampire complete with a cape and went around yelling- “Trick or treat, I suck your blood!” It was awesome. She also had candy bars for the first time and Patrick let her eat as much as she wanted while he pulled her around in her wagon. I got to lay in bed and be miserable having contractions while everyone else was out getting high on sugar.

We have had several hospital trips since then for pain management and cervical checks and lots of pity from medical professionals. Even Kay runs out of her room every morning asking “Where’s da baby?” and we have to tell her that there’s no baby yet, but so far Rice Krispies with milk are a close second to Fi being here.

It’s lovely to go into my OBGYN twice a week and have them shake there head at me and say “I saw your name on the schedule and couldn’t believe you hadn’t delivered yet,” every single time. The first couple of times I  hadn’t made any progress and they sent me home, I bawled my eyes  out in the office, but now I just ask for my painkillers and ambien and it’s all good.

They don’t want to induce me because I am not 38 weeks yet and she seems quite small,  which I totally understand. But I know she has to come out sometime, and worst case scenario, she doesn’t ever come out but Patrick and I get our own reality TV show. I’m still trying to figure out what it will be called, but I’m sure TLC will have some great ideas.
